Desmond is the son of a very close friend of mine, Mallory.  (Don’t believe her blog – she’s way more socially adept than I am.)  (Also, she has ridiculously adorable twin girls, so only click that link if you are fully prepared to die from cuteness.)  He is two months younger than Charlotte and in so many ways he is the center of her universe.  When I ask her if she wants to spend some time with a friend, she always asks for Desmond.

“We’re going to Grandpa’s house,” I told her yesterday morning when we woke up.  “No,” she said.  “I need, I need to go to Desmond’s house actually.  AND PLAY WITH HIS TOYS!”

“What should we do tomorrow?” I asked her yesterday morning.  “Go to the park,” she answered.  “Yeah, with Desmond please.”

“Hey sweetheart, it’s okay, go back to sleep,” I whispered in her ear when I accidentally woke her up last night.  “Am dreaming, am dreaming, Momma,” she said.  “Desmond dreams too, Momma.”

I love these amazing, brilliant children we’ve made and I love watching them grow up together.  I love the sound of Desmond’s laugh and the way his whole body erupts with excitement when he’s happy.  And I love the way Charlotte leans in for kisses whenever she sees him.  I love the thunder of their footsteps as they chase each other giggling on the playground and I love the way they grab each others’ hands to show them something cool.

Sometimes I wonder where they’ll be in thirty years.  (Mallory might not realize it, but she’s pretty much stuck with me for life because HELLO, has cute children, doesn’t mind crude humor, laughs when my kid poaches her kid’s sippy cup, listens better than easily 99.99% of the world, THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF AWESOME.)  Will they still be friends?

I hope so.  Wherever their lives take them, I really hope so.

And with that, my ovaries exploded.  The end.

Ugh, I just love miniature friendships! It always kind of bums me out that I have to refrain from putting my kids’ friends’ pictures on my blog… because they are always some of my favorites.

(Also, I immediately fell in love with Mallory when I was that she is cool enough to name her daughter Isla - quite possibly one of my favorite names in the universe—only to find out further down the post that Isla’s twin is Scarlett? Love. Just, love.)

Alicia S. - Aren’t Mal and Ricky’s name picks the best?!

I also tend not to post pictures of friends, family, or anybody’s kids - and I usually try to make sure that people I know are disguised well enough that they cannot immediately identify themselves in posts about conversations, park outings, etc.  In this case, I asked permission =)

Sarah - Lucky duck!  I have a few good friends (like Mallory) who live nearby and have kids, but most of my closest friends live super close and don’t have kids yet - or live far away and do.  Sigh.

At this time it seems like Movable Type is the top blogging platform available right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?
