Girl Habits for Jordin’s Journey.
May 18, 2012

*** The last two weeks have been especially busy for our family, hence the low rate of blogging.  Next week things should be back to normal.  Whew!  Thanks for your patience!

It has been two and a half weeks since I featured my sister’s shop as part of a fundraiser for Jordin’s Journey.  If you’re new to the site, you can read about Jordin’s Journey by clicking over to the website, to the Facebook page, or by reading the post that I wrote about the charity here.

The next shop that I am featuring is Girl Habits, which a few old readers may remember from an “interview” with Carolina Baker, the entrepreneur behind and owner of Girl Habits, that turned up on my website a couple years back.  (On that note, I really do keep meaning to get back on top of those interviews and I’m deeply sorry to those who have been waiting way-too-patiently for me to get my act together!)

Girl Habits sells the Mi-Bra, which is described on the website as “an eco-friendly sports bra, made with 90% organic cotton, [that] has a no frills pocket for you to place your iPod when exercising.  You can also put a couple dollar bills in it to buy a bottle of water for your workout.  Use the pocket to take your subway card, key, and debit card along for your exercise jaunt.”

Admittedly, all of the pictures on the site are of runners.  I am not a runner.  In fact, the only time I wear sports bras is when I’m engaged in rock climbing, backpacking, or a rigorous hike.  On that note, I carry a chalk bag with a pocket when I climb so I keep keys in there, but I cannot COUNT how many times while out hiking I have wished I had an easy place to store my car key and driver’s license so that I could leave the rest of my key chain and wallet behind.

I never do because my only alternative to this point has been a bag with the vitals (but then I have to find a place to put the bag) or my jeans pocket (and what a nightmare it would be if my key slipped out).  I had completely forgotten about the Mi-Bra until Carolina contacted me about supporting Jordin’s Journey – and I’m really glad that she took the time to remind me (even more glad that she’s supporting such a worthwhile cause!) (Thank you, Carolina!), because it’s a brilliant solution to my problem.

The other really incredible thing that I love about the Mi-Bra is the Girl Habits policy of providing a 25% discount to customers who use it until they need a new one.  What a positive way to support returning customers!  And after you return your old bra to Girl Habits, it is either donated or sent back to the manufacturer so that the fabric can be recycled.  I *love* this practice for so many reasons.

At any rate, the Mi-Bra costs $20.00 and $5.00 of each sale (25% for those of you keeping track) is currently being donated to one of two charities.  To ensure that Jordin’s Journey receives your money, please enter the coupon code “Jordin” at checkout.  I would really appreciate it if you would check it out.  $5.00 may not seem to be much at first glance, but over time these things all add up.

Excellent blog you have here but I was curious about if you knew of any message boards that cover the same topics talked about here? I’d really love to be a part of community where I can get responses from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Many thanks!
