A trim.

That old orange tree died well over a year ago and has been standing there looking hideous ever since.  Now that it’s been cut down, two other backyard trees are receiving much-needed light.

I’ve spent a lot of time dwelling on how we should landscape the area left behind by the dead orange tree.  Donald and I generally try to plant at least one tree every time we have to take one down and we already know that we would like to plant a fig tree about twenty feet behind where it once stood, so that the coop receives more shade in the hot summers and the backyard trees still have plenty of light.  But as for the orange tree real estate itself?  I’ve been thinking that what might be lovely for Charlotte would be a circle of tree stumps with native wildflowers in the middle.

We’ll see!

your ambitions for your yard sound about as large (and long term) as ours…

too bad we seem to only have about 1/2 the space.
