After a bath.
August 31, 2009

Donald and I waited sixteen days before we gave Charlotte her first full-immersion bath, because that’s how long it took her belly button to stop looking like something from Frankenstein’s garden and start looking more like something you expect to find in the middle of a baby’s belly.  Sixteen days.  It was a long sixteen days of half-assed sponge baths, so when we were able to start bathing her, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Of course, THAT SAID, it was something of an Event.  Our first few attempts at bathing our daughter were somewhat disastrous, in part because babies become unfathomably slippery when you get them within two miles of a single sud of soap, and in part becuase when you’re learning a new skill, well, you’re bound to be a bit clumsy.  So at first, hmmmm, let’s put it this way: astronauts sometimes make it to the moon and back with more ease.

Then, last week, for a variety of reasons I was forced to give Charlotte a bath every single day.  Every.  Single.  Day.  ALONE.  BY MYSELF!

Since I am now a bathtime PRO, we took our first bathtime photograph of Charlotte yesterday morning.  This was obviously taken after a certain cute, chubby, happy, naked baby was already bathed.  But that’s okay; it’s still a milestone for the three of us =)

I love her face in this photo :) It seems as though she’s communicating “is this photo really necessary, Mom?“

She is too cute for words. So I’ll stop now.

    That is a great picture.

I’m assuming Charlotte likes the bath since you didn’t mention otherwise and I’m so happy for you.  Lily hated the bath til a couple of months ago and even now its not her favorite thing.  The screams make giving her a bath much less fun.
