Behind the Blog: CRAZY LOVE GAMBLE STYLE
March 04, 2010

Today’s featured blogger shares my name.  Whenever I meet somebody who has my name, the first question I ask is “with an H or without?“  Every Sara/Sarah in the entire universe knows EXACTLY what I mean when I ask this.  I am pleased to announce that Sarah, from Crazy Love Gamble-Style spells her name with an H.  The right way.  Anyway, she has a beautiful, adorable, wonderful little girl named Ava and today is her anniversary, so send her happy wishes!!  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, SARAH!!

I knew I would be a mother from about the age of two.  I always had dolls that made up my own little family, they were Cabbage Patch Kids and I can still remember their names, Allison, Andrew, Meyer & Angie.  I struggle with wanting to buy one for Ava when I am at Target but I suppose I should wait until she actually asks for one.  It might break my heart to see her neglect that ugly little doll.  : )

I have been married to John, my wonderful husband exactly 4 years today.  HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HONEY!!  He is perfect for me, not meaning that things are always perfect but he has a good heart and is such a good man, we are very blessed to have found each other.

My favorite thing is to have people over.  I love to cook an awesome meal, drink some fabulous drinks, have great conversation and play some games (we are total game addicts!!)

I have sent an “Ava Picture of the Day” email that usually contained at least 5 pictures of Ava almost every single day since she was born.  Just this year I finally morphed that dedication into something I enjoy much more, blogging.  It gives me an opportunity to share my pictures AND tell a little story.  Now my only regret is that I didn’t start sooner.

    1.  What is the best part about being married to your husband?

The best part about being married to my husband is the opportunity of being right so often.

No, just kidding.  It would have to be the simple security that KNOWING you are with the right person, that you will be together no matter what and watching him be a great father to my favorite little person.

    2.  How did you pick Ava’s name?

I always had MY GIRL name picked out when I was younger.  It was Nadine, Daphne coming in a close second.  As I was pregnant I realized two things, I didn’t like the name Daphne so much anymore and my husband was not IN LOVE with Nadine.  Somehow Ava became on the top of the list, it was so original! (How wrong I was!)  20 seconds after our ultrasound I declared her name Ava Nadine Gamble!  “How sure are you on this name?” someone asked, John said 95% sure and I said “Um no, 100%” and that was that.  I am a firm believer in if they don’t veto it completely you should be able to pull rank, you are CARRYING the baby after all.

    3.  Name one thing you miss about being a kid.

When I was a kid, and I count that up until my mid-twenties, I didn’t seem to struggle with doing the right thing so much and that equaled lots of fun adventures.  : )

    4.  Do you have any guilty pleasures?

My guilty pleasure is being a Bad Wife and staying up long after my husband goes to bed.  I like to catch up on TV shows I wouldn’t want anyone knowing I watch and read a whole slew of fun blogs.  It is the ME time I crave.

    5.  Okay, tell us one story that your family will tease you about until the day that you die.

Do I have to??  Okay, my sister wins, I will tell it.

When I was 19 and my sister was 21 we went out walking together.  You know for exercise?  I hardly recognize that word these days but I plan on revisiting it soon.  Anyhow, when we returned from our walk she was acting all dramatic and was saying she needed a glass of water.  I was thinking to myself “ok, you know where the glasses are?!” I may or may not have pointed that out.  She leaned her head on the sink (again, SUPER dramatically!) and all I could think was oh brother!  Next thing you know she passes out!!  ON MY FLOOR!  I was shocked and didn’t handle this well at all.  I kept yelling at her “GET UP!!  Jessica GET UP!!”  And then she sat up and I saw it, the pool of BLOOD!  “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME??” I screamed.  (Yeah, I know, real sympathetic.)  I then proceeded to drive her to the hospital.  I managed to go the WRONG WAY on the highway in the middle of my panic.

My family thought I was the most selfish person on earth, they still laugh about it today.  I would like to think I have redeemed myself by now though…  : )

oh my goodness! What a scary story about your sister! I collected those ugly little dolls too, though I have two boys… so not only did I not get to pass down my barbies, I never bought a cabage patch doll for them either ;)

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but Donald and I are also total game addicts.  Especially Scrabble and Spades.  I never even knew how to play Scrabble or Spades before I met him, and I’m still pretty crappy at both, but I still love it =)

Ava is a beautiful name for a beautiful girl! I actually think it’s one of the top 20 girl names now.

We’re big game addicts too! One of our favourites is Settlers of Catan.

We love many games but our top picks are Ticket to Ride & Pinochle.  I love me some Scrabble but I can barely ever get John to play that with me, he says I always win but I assure you is not because I have great spelling skills it is more a strategic placing of the words.

Jessica only split her head open a little ; )  I think she was having a low blood sugar issue but she is all better now, I learned my lesson, no more exercise.
