Four years.
July 29, 2011

To my hubby,

We celebrated four years of marriage yesterday.  I feel like two minutes ago I was peeking out the window, seeing you tall and handsome, eager to get this show on the road.  Then I blinked.  Now we’re here.

When I think of where we were four years ago, I am very proud of the people you and I have become and the marriage we’ve built.  We’ve made something beautiful together, haven’t we?

This year, I have been struck again and again by how we’ve grown.  You eat broccoli now and instead of saying “oh sugar,” I use real curse words when I stub my toe.  You aren’t as stoic and I’m not as stubborn.  We’ve both settled into a pragmatic sort of love, where we think spending an afternoon helping each other do yardwork is more romantic than a vase of roses.  I think we bring out the best in each other.

I am so glad, Donald, so very glad that you married me.  I know that I say that a lot, but I mean it.  I am.  I love you.

From your wifey.

*** You know how during the reception all of the eligible women gather on the floor for the bouquet toss?  One of my bridesmaids caught the bouquet at our wedding and she was, in fact, the next one of the lot to get married.  Seriously.  WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

    Happy Anniversery, Sarah and Donnie.
It is hard to believe that it’s been four years.  The years do go by quickly and they go faster the older that you get.

You and Donnie have created a home filled with love and as Donnie’s mother that is all I could ever ask.  May you both be blessed with a long happy life.

    I love you both,
    Mom and Carolee

Aw, happy anniversary. :) I love love.

    Two crazy things:
1- I am ‘wifey’ at our house too.

2- We thought building a deck was more romantic that a dozen roses too. And it went with the whole 5 years = wood (traditional gifts) idea. But now we have a place to sit every evening, which is way more romantic than a vase of flowers that smell gross when I forget to change the water.

Ok, I’ve been a looooong time lurker, but I had to comment today.  First of all, congrats on 4 years! And in response to your flower toss note, I have a story.  When I was married, we had exacly 3 single girls at my reception.  So, I threw the bouquet and one girl caught it.  To be nice, she split the bouquet between the three of them.  Now, 5 years later, she is still unmarried and the other two girls ARE married!  Note to single girls, don’t split the bouquet!  How funny.  :)

    Fascinating about the bouquet toss!

I didn’t toss mine because I was (Read: selfish) too interested in keeping my beautiful flowers as memorabilia.  I have them dried, in a vase, and in my kitchen!

I heard some people have two bouquets…one to toss and one to keep?  That’s something I could get behind.

Jet - In the interest of full disclosure, I actually tossed a bridesmaid’s bouquet.  We were married in my parents’ front yard and then we had the reception a couple minutes away.

I sort of forgot the bouquet at the house.  Oops!

Christy - Thanks =)  We’ve been together for six years and married for four.  I always forget about the two years before for some reason, so when I say we’ve been together for four then it seems like “wow, how’d we manage to pull our shit together in only four years? we’re rockstars” but then I remember that we had six years.  And that seems a little more fitting lol!
