Heart bruising.
March 11, 2010

A few days ago, Charlotte crawled.

I am proud to announce this, I am.  As she slowly, methodically inched forward, I was mere inches away, happily cheering her on.  But you know what?  In the back of my head, I was also thinking, well, IT IS ABOUT STINKING TIME.

In my defense, I have spent the last month watching my daughter learn to crawl.  And if you have ever devoted as many hours to that practice as I have, you will back me up on this: it is an exercise in patience.

Mostly because of the head banging.

Big thanks to Mailis for the cutest little legwarmers!  We love them!!

Over the past month, I have (patiently!) (kind of…) watched as Charlotte has banged her head into the floor, the walls, the floor, the cradle, the floor, the bookcase, the floor, the chair, the floor, the bed, the floor, the cabinets, and the floor.  Oh, and the floor.

I will have you know that I birthed that head, THANKYOUVERYMUCH.  I think that head is perfect.  I think that head is brilliant and precious and wonderful.  I do not think that head needs to be banged into the floor.

There are other frustrating bits as well, of course.  Charlotte has, for example, whimpered and screeched and cried and completely lost her mind approximately three million times an hour over the past few weeks.  Because the toy! Is out of reach!  IT IS OUT OF REACH!  THE TOY!  IT CANNOT BE REACHED!  THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!!!

That sort of thing.

But the head banging is the worst.  So even though I realize that crawling will present its own set of challenges, I have to admit: I saw her scuttle forward .02 centimeters before collapsing and I thought THANK GOODNESS.

My poor, sweet Charlotte is only seven months old and already I want to envelope her in bubble wrap and tell the world to play nice.

*** Sweet Jenna is featured Behind the Blog today.  Enjoy!

YAAAAAAAY CHARLOTTE!!! She beat Isla by a good 3.5 months! Talk about patience… Isla didn’t crawl until the end of January and she was showing signs in November!

But HUZZAH for Charlotte… Now mommy things (like chores) are going to take twice as long, but it’s worth it.

Charlotte is too cute!  I remember waiting for ‘Cakes to crawl & then two months later she was running.  I live in a state of “controlled” chaos.  :)

Yea Charlotte!!! And dear sweet mommy, I hate to tell you but from this moment on she will only get more and more mobile which results in more and more bumps and bruises, its brutal!

Yay Charlotte!  We are *patiently* waiting for Molly to crawl over here…it’s a trying process and yes, the head banging on the floor is gut wrenching.  Looking back on it, I am sure it happens so quickly, but while living it, not so much.

Sigh.  Right now, she’s only crawled forward a few times.  She definitely still prefers the army crawl.  And the head bang.  I’m willing to take the other bruises if they aren’t all on the forehead!

Oh no, just waits till she starts walking!! They get so many bangs and bruises. My son did more than my daughter. I wanted to walk around with a sign saying I did not beat my child.  :-)

no fun on the bruises part (not looking forward to this part either!).  Super cute leg warmer, I love those things also!!  Isn’t it funny how they think the world is ending when a toy is out of their reach (I just wrote about this on my blog yesterday! :)!!)  Charlotte is super cute, I love her BIG teethy smile!

Oh boy! I was so happy when Madie started crawling too, if only because she was SO frustrated having to stay where she was set down!

As far as the head goes, I always tell her “Careful with your noggin, it’s the only one you get!“.  I have a feeling that phrase will be used many times over the years….

When I see Junior banging his head, poking out his eye, scratching his face, etc.. I always tell him, “I worked hard to make that gorgeous [insert body part here], I’m not about to allow you to injure it! THANKYOUVERYMUCH!“

Kerry - I use the same expression!  Kind of.  I say “Easy on the noggin’, you only get one!“ which is pretty much the same thing.

Heeey… I just noticed that there’s another Cynthia on here.

At first I thought I commented again… I read it, thinking “Hey! I don’t remember writing that!“

Anyway, to make things simpler, I’m just going to be “Cynthia Krajcarski”

Oh… I also don’t know why I needed to share that with everyone… Today has been one huge brainfart.

I did want to say YAY for Mailis sharing the legwarmers love.

Yay for Charlotte!  Hadley didn’t crawl until almost 9 months old.  She walked at 10 1/2 months.  I was beginning to think something was wrong, but then we got it all at once.

I love the Baby Legs, too!  Aren’t they the best?  Hadley wears them on her arms now.

i wish i still had bubblewrap around my head somedays.

Oh gosh, it is nice to know that Im not the only one impatient about the crawling. Nia tries and tries, it is so frustrating for her. And to make matters worse? She goes backwards when she army crawls! So, as she struggles, and struggles to get to that much NEEDED toy, she gets further and further away! She has started getting on her knees and rocking… maybe she will head forward one of these days.

Hi Sarah!  I just found you through TMB.  I love your sense of humor, and you take fabulous photos!  My youngest didn’t crawl til 9.5 months, and when she did, she did it upright.  Kind of a scoot.  Sorta like a Frog with 1 broken leg.  :)

    Happy Saturday!

Those leggins! Where do I start?!! They’re adorable! Where can I get a pair? And with that red onesie! Charlotte is a rock star, Sarah.

Oh, and much congratulations on the crawling. I would imagine watching a baby learn to crawl is like waiting for a pot to boil. The shit kicks in and suddenly it’s overflowing white starchy water all over the sink.

Watch out, Southern California. Charlotte is on the loose!

Err –– stove. White starchy water all over the STOVE.

OK, Heidi. Go back to work.
