So-called sick.
September 30, 2011

    -  Okay, chickadee.  It’s time for us to get home and make lunch.
    -  No!  No, Momma!  Cannot go!
    -  Darling, we’ve been here for over two hours.  It’s time for lunch.  We can come back this afternoon.
    -  (lays down) No, Momma!  Charlotte so sick!  Cannot go!
    -  (raises eyebrows) Oh really?  Charlotte is sick?
    -  Yes.  Cannot go home.  So sick.  Lay down, Charlotte!  Too sick to drive.
    -  (SO HARD NOT TO LAUGH) Well sweetheart, if you’re sick then maybe I should pick you up to make you feel better.  And maybe I should take you home so that you and I can snuggle on the couch.  What do you think?
    -  (thinks about this) No, Momma.  Playground gives Charlotte feel better.  No snuggling.

I’m so glad my kid isn’t the only one who does this.  Except with Hannah, anything she doesn’t want to do hurts.  Naptime?  NO WANNA TAKE A NAP!  MY TUMMY HURTS!  Take a bath?  SHOWUH HURTS ME!  Leave the playground? WALK-EEN HURTS!  Especially problematic when she doesn’t want to wear shoes (because she doesn’t want to go somewhere)... and then discovering that she has in fact outgrown her shoes.  Ooooops.

(She’s also very big into “have to.“  As in, I HAVE TO GO OW-SIDE!  No, we’re staying inside right now because you need to help me clean up your toys.  NO!  I CAN’ KEEN UP, HAVE TO GO OW-SIDE!  Oy.)

Oh yes. Just wait until she gives you the line about how her stomach is upset from eating too many peas. And she thinks cookies will help to even things out.
