Thankfully not yet thirteen.

Donald and I are both big outdoorsy-type people.  Our first date was rock climbing and one of the things that we have mentioned time and time again is our enthusiasm to share our love of the wilderness with our daughter.  Over the weekend, we took Charlotte on her first day-hike, a short loop on some local horse trails that only lasted a couple miles.  Charlotte loved it as much as we did!

Now the only trick is to keep her loving it when she’s thirteen and only wants to do things like put on make-up and talk on the phone.

i too am afraid my future children will grow up hating outdoorsy things.  i certainly know we will majorly overexpose them LOL.  i think kids will end up liking what they are exposed to for the most part though (at least that is what my mom keeps assuring me).

Amanda - Alas, it is the only carrier he’ll use.  We bought a ginormous sling just for him and I swear the man hasn’t looked at it once.

I tell him that reluctance is a uniquely male trait.  He doesn’t believe me.

I too bought my hubby his own gray camo custom Dream Carrier (like an ergo but a local mama to me and they were cheaper at the time) And he wore it once. :( oh well, now we have one for the car I guess.

He always found that once baby was stable they preferred and so did he, the daddy perch. His shoulders. :)

So far it’s working for us.  The Buddha spent two years hiking around on my back (invest in a good carrier!  You won’t regret it.  The little suckers get heavy and mess with your balance) and now she insists on walking by herself.  It’s too snowy to hike now, but by this fall she could do about a mile loop on her own.  Of course, it took us an hour or more, what with the stopping every two feet to pick up a pine cone/acorn/stick/rock and her need to inform me every time she stepped over a tree root.  But she did it.

My parents took us camping.  I hated it when I was a teenager.  But, yeah, now I’m outdoorsy.

What a great photo.  And I think I need one of those outfits - she looks so snuggly and warm!
