Thick as thieves.

For a long time, Charlotte really didn’t give a rat’s ass about Hank.  And Hank, accordingly, didn’t give a rat’s ass about Charlotte.

A super cute child and a not-so-cute dog butt.  You’re welcome.

Lately, that’s changed.

I’m not positive what happened, but suddenly Charlotte loves Hank.  She loves pointing at him and saying WOOF! WOOF!  Which, by the way, is the sound that Charlotte thinks all animals say.  Goats.  Cats.  Llamas.  Chameleons.  Polar bears.  Goldfish.  They all say WOOF! WOOF!

Except cows.  My kid knows her cows.  She will point out an ox, bison, bull, cow, anything remotely similar to a cow and say MOOOOO.  We have her grandfather to thank for that.  I tried drilling it into her head for months, but it wasn’t until he MOOOOOed at her and scared her half to death that she really figured it out.

Unfortunately, my father hasn’t scared her half to death by flapping around the living room and honking like a goose, so geese still say WOOF! WOOF!

ANYWAY, my original point was that Charlotte thinks that Hank (just like, you know, camels and jaguars) says WOOF! WOOF!  Every morning, she hangs out with him, feeding him biscuits and petting him, while I prepare our breakfast.  Every afternoon, she follows him around excitedly on our walk.  And every day, he starts to love on her a little more – a lick on the forehead here, a nuzzle with his nose there, and once in awhile he’ll even lay down and let her crawl all over him.

There is something so sweet about watching the relationship between my girl and her WOOF! WOOF! develop.  I cannot wait to witness the adventures (and mischief) those two are sure to cook up when she’s a little older.

All animals also sound like dogs to Jasper, too. He doesn’t say “woof woof”—it’s more like “mm mmm” (it’s hard to explain), which is how our dog kind of sounds. She doesn’t bark a lot. She’s weird.

Oh - that’s so cute!  I love, LOVE that Henry and Oscar are buds.  Sometimes Henry just laughs and laughs at whatever it is that Oscar is doing.  And the other day I even caught on video (and posted on my blog) the two of them rolling Oscar’s ball back and forth.  I’m so glad we have Oscar because he’s such a sweet puppy and he lets Henry play with his toys and pull on his fur and he just takes it all in stride.  I know they’re going to be great friends when Henry’s old enough to run around with him - can hardly wait!

I can’t imagine not having pets. I always hear people saying how they could never have them and I think their kids miss out on SO much without a fur-buddy.

My sister had a rottweiler when she was pregnant with her first and everyone told her to get rid of him because it was unacceptable to have a rott with a baby. That dog was the most loving, tolerant creature for a boy to grow up with. My nephew’d poke his eyes, climb on him and “ride” on his back and the poor dog never even growled at him, he’d just put up with it all.

I love the relationship between dog and baby! As I read this I sat and watched my 11 month old sit and poke and prod…but also kiss and pet…his doggie. She just lays there and takes it and gives him the occassional kiss back. So precious!

Ohmygosh the LEG CHUB. Is KILLING me.  How do you stand it?!?!

Hannah adores Woody, and gives him kisses and pets him (often backwards) with her “gentle hands.“  However, Woody does not so much adore Hannah as grudgingly tolerates her.  If we had a dog, she would be all over that too (she ADORES dogs) and my guess is the dog would love it.  So!  Lucky Charlotte that you have a dog!

Heh! OK, that child is beautiful. Seriously. And there is something about a child in a plain white diaper shirt that makes me swoon.

Jude and our chihuahua Bones have been playing tug-o-war ever since Jude discovered mobility/ the dog toys. The game consists of either the dog or the baby picking a toy up and waving it in front of the other tauntingly. Calamity, shrieking and a (very amiable) battle of wills then occur. When they play, my heart sings. It’s adorable.

Jude’s first animal sound is also “woof, woof”...high pitched, of course, because we have a yappy dog. ;)

    This post made my day.

I don’t know what it is about animals and little kids, but that melts my heart. Beautiful picture, as always! I hope my doggies take so well to my (future) children. When I met my nephew for the first time, our Husky Shepherd mix patrolled in front of the sofa I was sitting on with him. The other dogs in the house were just being far too rough for her liking. I loved it!

Harper loves loves loves dogs right now.  But since she’s all about pulling hair and trying to eat their faces, they’re wary of her.  I can totally see her being like Charlotte when she’s able to walk.  Too friggin’ cute!

All animals are “cats” or “cots” as my nephew calls them. my dog is a “cot”, cows, hamsters, birds.. all “cots” (he has a strange accent, he’s a jersey boy who sounds like he is from boston) (he is a month younger than your daughter lol)

So cute! Isn’t it just the sweetest thing? We have a toy poodle and my little guy just loves taking him for walks and having play time together.

Elijah would absolutely die for a dog like Hank, but Hank would likely not like him as Elijah would eat all his dog food.

If your dad does flap around the living room- please take a picture.

I love the bond between kids and their animals, or should I say animals and their kids.
