To you.  From me.
September 28, 2009

Dear Charlotte,

You are almost 25 inches long, sweet girl.  25 inches.  Do you know what is shorter than 25 inches?  NOT.  MUCH.

Your giant baby genes astound about 120% of the population.  People cannot help but bond over a baby, and the first thing strangers do is ask how old you are.  As soon as I tell someone that you only have two months under your belt, jaws drop and little thought bubbles with neon exclamation points pop up over their heads.

Ladies and gentlemen!  I am proud to present the world’s 5,432,617th longest baby!

The sad news is that you’ve also come down with a bit of a stuffy nose over the last week.  Your father has the world’s worst sinuses and I’m pretty well convinced that he gave them to you.  So when I’m shoving that plastic bulb up your nostrils and you’re screaming your head off, I’d really appreciate it if you kept in mind that IT IS ALL YOUR FATHER’S FAULT.

Truth is, kiddo, that it’s no fun to have a kid who can’t breathe.  There is no sound in this world that breaks a mother’s heart more than the quiet sniffles of a child in distress and pain.  So next time you don’t feel well, I have an idea.  Why don’t you just take a couple of steak knives and carve out my heart?

It’ll hurt less.

I could look at that smile all day long!

In other news, you are smiling and laughing more every day.  Your father and I spent the first few weeks of your life expressing how much we hoped that you would be a cheerful baby, but we had no idea just how HAPPY! you would be.

You are always happy, always smiling, and as soon as we come into the room, you light up like a kid in a candy store.  And all that giggling, gurgling, overflowing, uncontainable joy is just about the best thing that’s ever happened to our family.  From a parental standpoint, it’s an exhilarating feeling.  It’s like getting a gold star on your second grade report card, just, you know, BETTER.

A lot better.

I love you, Monkey, and I am so thankful that you are here,
Momma

So very sweet!  I have a feeling our little one will be like that - tall.  Actually, I think he’s like that already as we’ve been told that he’s either due earlier than we think (which I kind-of doubt) or he’s just going to be a big kid.  So he’ll be right there along side Charlotte in the length department.  I’m sure they’ll be very good friends.  :)

I love your last photo with only Charlotte’s and Donald’s legs showing.  So sweet.

I love love love the last photo. And WOW, 25 inches! We find out Jazz’s stats on Wednesday, but I bet they’re the same length, and he’s got 4 months on her!

I’m always in awe of how much Charlotte looks like Donald at this stage, so I am in no way surprised to hear what a “tall” baby she is! Her eyes make me think of you, but everything else right now screams “Daddy Genes.“ So precious!

Very sweet and can I just say DAMN my 9 month old (is tiny all around) is only 25 1/4 in long!

I may have been slightly addicted to the nose syringe this time around with my daughter. I may also be addicted to picking boogers out of her nose now that she’s too old for the nose syringe.

I also prayed for a happy baby and was thankfully blessed with one that is also HAPPY!  AND EXCITED!  BY LIFE!  AND LIVING!  AND MOM!  AND DAD! all day long.  It makes the fussing and the 4-month sleep regression so much easier to bear.  Charlotte has such a beautiful smile, lucky you to look on that every day!!

I have heard great and wonderful things about the Nosefrida snot sucker.  Haven’t tried it, but it is supposed to be wonderful.  Hannah also hates the syringe.  She also hates Q-tips (which work great btw).

I have often heard suggested that you place a small pillow under one end of the crib mattress (if she is sleeping on her own) so she can sleep with her head slightly elevated.  It’s supposed to help the sinuses drain while they sleep so they don’t get so stuffy.  Haven’t tried it either, but.

My oldest measured 22.5 inches when he was born. On his 10 day check-up he was 24.5. I think he was born that long but just needed some time to unfold. He came home in 3 month clothes and was out of them in the first week. He grew to be just 6 feet tall. Love that last picture, it really did make me laugh out loud.

Oh my goodness, Mitzie, your kid was HUGE!  That makes me feel a little better, knowing she could still turn out to be a normal size =)

She really is SO very cute.  That smile.  I love it.

My kiddos all get a stuffy nose at 2 months.  I don’t know what it is, but all 4 of them have done it.  And they have normal sinuses now…so maybe there’s hope ;)

Beautiful post, Sarah =) I happened to notice that lovely sling you are wearing and was wondering, who made it?

    She’s very pretty!

Jaye - It was made by Nest baby slings, but I don’t think they’re around anymore.  They used to be at nonnyandboo.com.  You might be able to find some of their slings on ebay if they’re not online any longer.
