We’ve all done this, right?
April 08, 2010

Me:  Your baby is soooo precious!  SO PRECIOUS!  I could just nibble those thighs and eat those cheeks all day long!

Her:  Well, thank you.  What a cutie, huh?  I just love those long lashes!

Me:  How could you not?  THIS BABY IS ADORABLE.  No two ways about it.

TWO MINUTES LATER.  (OUT OF EARSHOT.)

Me:  Our baby is totally cuter.

Him:  Definitely.  No two ways about it.

tee hee hee…of course we have!  If our own baby wasn’t the cutest in our eyes, that would just be sad!  nothing wrong with that!  and, nothing wrong with trying to make someone else feel good, right?

    haha!  Yes.  Of course!

Guilty!!  Or when they are admiring your baby ALOT and they have a baby that is not as cute as yours, LOL!  Then again, we all think our babies are the “the cutest”!!

  4. By C @ Kid Things on April 08, 2010

Of course. After all the work we went through to get them out, we better think our own kids are the cutest thing ever.

I’ve said this before, but I actually really try to be mindful of the fact that Jasper isn’t the cutest baby in the world, because there are so many absolutely cute babies in the world. I will go ahead and admit that I have definitely noticed that Jasper is quite adorable, and that he is cuter than some babies, but I do try to stop myself from going overboard with it. I think this is probably because I don’t want to say it a lot to him and then have him thinking he’s like..the most gorgeous person alive. I don’t know if that would happen. I don’t know.

He is a super cutie, though. And cuter than some. For sure. ;)

Ummm, yeah!  I’m totally telling the truth when I tell someone else their baby is adorable.  Aren’t all babies adorable?!  But what kind of mother would I be to MY baby if I didn’t think she was THE cutest?  :)

Bwahahahaha!  My husband and I often congratulate each other on having created the.cutest.baby.ever.the.end.  ;-)

Haha! Yes! My 9 month old is not only the cutest, but also the smartest baby ever. He’s practically a rocket scientist. :-)

    LOL! Of course.

Hahaha! I don’t even HAVE a baby yet and I think I’ve already had this conversation (but with an extra “will be”... as in… our baby WILL BE cuter than that).

    Ahhhh, a mother’s love.

  12. By on April 08, 2010

Of course :-)  No one is cuter than your own.

My husband is ALWAYS saying “but not as cute as Miss Ellie”!!  My toddler is completely edible right now—and if you’re lucky, she’s blueberry yogurt flavored.  ;)

Stephanie - I think I fall under the category of people who think every baby deserves to have someone who thinks they are the best, sweetest, cutest, smartest, most awesome child ever.  It doesn’t mean other babies aren’t cute, because they are, it just means that I hold Charlotte above all others lol.

I also tell her all the time that I think she’s the loveliest, funniest, whatever-est.  I figure hey, my parents told me that I was, but by the time I was school-age, I never thought I was better than everybody else, I just knew I was adored, that my folks loved me more than anyone else.  I’m sure Charlotte will be the same.  She’ll go through the same difficult toddler stage as everyone else, then she’ll realize that we love her and all our adjectives are subjective.

After a barbecue with all the mommies and daddies and babies at our house:
Me: Aren’t all those babies just so cute?
Brian: I guess.  Some are kind of scrawny and that one just looks like a bowling ball with legs.
Me: !!!  But they are still cute!
Brian: Okay, seriously?  Our baby is SO much cuter than any of those other babies.  Our baby really is the prettiest one in your whole group.
    Me: Well, yes, you’re right.

Yeah, I think I’m with Stephanie on this one.  Using -est adjectives with Eloise makes me uncomfortable.  Like I’m being rude to future siblings by calling her the smartest or prettiest or that I’m just plain lying to her.  Yeah she’s cute.  And I already think she’s cuter than she actually is I’m sure - mom love makes us all biased.  But cutest baby ever?  No.  I guess when I think about it, my mom was always very honest with me.  So while she wouldn’t tell me I was the most amazing person to ever walk the earth, when she did give me a compliment I knew it was for real.
