Wild thing.
December 10, 2010

Charlotte has been on a Where the Wild Things Are kick lately.  It is the very first book she grabs in the morning and the very last one she wants read to her in the evening.

Naturally, I’ve been calling her Wild Thing.  As in: thank you, Wild Thing, I don’t know what I ever would have done without this disgusting half-chewed bit of cheese you stuffed in my pocket.  Or: hey, Wild Thing, how about just this once we pass the fridge without having a total meltdown?

Even: whoa whoa whoa, Wild Thing, watch out.  That’s Momma’s bladder you just walloped with the broom handle.  Oof.

So a couple days ago, the two of us meet up with some friends at a local park.  As we turned the kids loose, letting them run around like the pint-sized nutjobs they are, they immediately gravitated toward the older children on the jungle gyms.  So we wound up standing around the jungle gyms as our munchkins went up and down and up and down following the older kids as fast as they possibly could.

At one point, Charlotte tried to navigate a tricky part of the jungle gym.  She couldn’t quite make it on her own, so I reached out to cushion her fall.  “Wow,” I said, “watch out, Wild Thing!”

Suddenly, I felt a tug on my shirt.  I peered down to find a little girl, probably around three years old, looking completely bewildered.  “HEY!,” she exclaimed, “HOW DID YOU KNOW MY NAME?!”

LOL! How adorable! Your kid? She cracks me up. Not to mention, she is growing in gorgeousness every day.

Jude’s favorite book at the moment is Walter The Farting Dog. The moment we go anywhere near the bookshelf, he gets it down, brings to to me and exclaims “DAT!!!!!“ , pointing at Betty and Billy, Walter and the cat… :)

I am pretty sure I know it by heart.

LOVE this story!  It’s funny - I called my youngest (now 12) “Little Bear” for the longest time (sometimes still do).  I recently found out that a colleague of mine calls her son (2 years old) “Little Bear” too!

OMG, that is too cute. Did you chuckle a little or did you just smile? Luckily, our nicknames for the kiddies are so creative that I doubt I’d ever hear it on a playground.
